the life of bracken
hooke, united kingdom
individual research project
2020
Bracken, as a pioneer plant, colonises a land rapidly after regeneration and out-competes other plant species. Under Climate Change, it becomes more invasive and threatens the biodiversity in many natural habitats. The project aims to explore the potentials of bracken as a construction material and provides a new methodology on bracken control and management. Based in Hooke Park, I study the ecology of this ancient plant and make bracken-based architectural prototypes to create spaces with suitable acoustic environments to listen to the sounds from Hooke Park woodland as a measure to monitor its ecosystem.
